Cala Luna is famous for its massive natural sea caves. These caverns provide welcome shade during the hot summer afternoons. A freshwater river opens directly into the sea here, creating a unique ecosystem where cold river water mixes with the warm Mediterranean sea. Cala Goloritzé

The beauty of the mixedpickles concept is that you bring your own flavor. Maybe you contribute:

In one single bay, you can have:

The phrase "mixed pickles" historically refers to a condiment—a colorful, jarred mixture of cauliflower, pearl onions, gherkins, and bell peppers preserved in vinegar and turmeric. But how did it end up glued to the peaceful bays of Sardinia?

The northern coast of Sardinia, specifically the Gallura region, is characterized by dramatic, wind-sculpted granite rocks and water so clear it resembles a swimming pool. Cala Coticcio (Caprera Island)

Most sailing charters, like the one we used, begin from the modern and welcoming marina at on the north-east coast. From there, a classic one-week itinerary can look something like this: mixedpickles - in the bays of sardinia

My first stop was the island of Caprera, the second largest in the archipelago. Its southwestern side provides many great coves and anchorages. I dropped anchor in Cala Portese Bay, a serene spot protected from the dominant winds. After a refreshing swim, I went ashore to visit the Casa di Garibaldi, the former home of the legendary Italian revolutionary, which is now a museum dedicated to his life.

My first taste of Sardinian grandeur came quickly as we motored past the famous bays of Porto Cervo and Cala di Volpe. While these hubs of luxury yachting are a spectacle in their own right, La Zucca and I are more at home where the crowds thin out. We bypassed the glamour to find a quiet anchorage near Porto Rotondo for our first night, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of pink and orange. Dropping the anchor and turning off the engine, the world fell silent save for the gentle lapping of waves against the hull. This, I thought, is the true music of a voyage.

If you prefer relaxation and calm waters, Sardinia has plenty of gentle, accessible bays. These spots feature shallow shores and excellent amenities. Tasting the famous Pecorino Sardo and Pane Carasau
