Formed in the working-class Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas in 1973, Los Chunguitos were the voices of the Salazar gypsy family from Extremadura. Their unique name comes from being scolded for throwing stones at trains: “What little rascals (chunguitos) you are!”. The original members were brothers Juan, Enrique, and José Salazar, with their sisters providing vocal harmonies before forming the successful duo Azúcar Moreno. Their sound blends flamenco singing with danceable pop rhythms, and their lyrics reflect the raw realities of life in Spain's slums during the Transition period.
